Forest “highways” are destroying the Carpathian Forest

The Bieszczady Mountains and the Przemyśl Plateau are being cut-through by an ever more extensive network of new and modernized forest roads, which are built for smooth removal of timber from those parts of the Carpathian Forest that were previously impossible to access – warn WWF Polska and The Dziedzictwo Przyrodnicze [Natural Heritage] Foundation in their latest report. What’s more, using loopholes in the Polish law, these investments are not preceded by the assessment of these highways’ environmental impact. In this way, we are forever losing the last fragments of the Carpathian Forest.
